The emotions were extremely high in the Soweto Derby, since the biggest giants had to battle for three points at FNB Stadium. At the end of the day, Pirates were able to complete an incredible 3-2 victory over Chiefs in front of a sold out stadium. Through it all, there’s an incident that could have turned the game upside down. Whereby the Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart pulled off a horrible tackle on the Pirates star Monnapule Saleng who ended up scoring a brace to assist his side to collect maximum points.
The Bucs winger had the game by the scruff of the neck as he found himself at the right positions. Somehow, Chiefs couldn’t keep him silent as he was able to give their defense a hard time with his pace and skills. By the looks of things, Maart had other plans as he wanted to take him out of the match in a scratcher. As the Chiefs skipper manuvoured a dangerous tackle that deserved a red card, but he was lucky to get away with it. As he got a yellow card, even though he missed the ball and went straight for Saleng’s leg.
The tackle could have easily broke the Pirates midfielder’s leg and this would have meant that Amakhosi had to play with 10-men on the pitch. Also, the outcome of the match could have been worse for Cavin Johnson’s men, since it harder to play against the Buccaneers when they have an advantage of one more player. Somehow, the referee missed the challenge as he didn’t heavily punish the Chiefs player by letting him take an early shower in the Soweto Derby. This has been a massive discussion online, as the Pirates fans wanted justice for Saleng who was cheated in a serious offense.
