Heartbreak and shock swept through the community of Chavani, Limpopo, as the tragic news of Rivoningo Angel Ngobeni’s untimely death emerged. A promising 19-year-old, Rivoningo had embarked on a journey of education and self-discovery, intending to enrol at the University of Venda. However, her dreams were brutally cut short, leaving her family and loved ones shattered.

Rivoningo’s disappearance sent ripples of concern through her family when she failed to return home as expected. With each passing day, the anguish grew until the devastating discovery was made on Thursday, 1 February. Her lifeless body was found in a shallow grave, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community.

The details that emerged painted a grim picture of gender-based violence, a scourge that continues to plague societies worldwide. Allegations suggest that Rivoningo’s boyfriend, the person entrusted with her care and affection, is allegedly responsible for her heinous murder. It’s reported that he mercilessly attacked her, striking her with a concrete brick before fatally stabbing her and callously burying her remains.

In the wake of this appalling tragedy, the rallying cry for justice reverberates. Rivoningo’s memory serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address and eradicate gender-based violence in all its forms. Her life was filled with promise, snuffed out by an act of senseless brutality that left a scar on the hearts of those who knew her.
