Bafana Bafana continue 2023 Afcon giant killing act as they maul the Atlas Lions to reach the last eight
A lad from Ga-Mampa, in rural Limpopo, beat a Moroccan defence of players plying their trade for some of the best clubs in Europe to send Bafana Bafana to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) at the expense of the No. 1 ranked team in the continent.
Evidence Makgopa embodied the odds Bafana had to beat to get the better of the Atlas Lions, whose players were developed in some of the best facilities in the world.
Morocco came into this match not only as the highest-ranked team in the continent, but they also could brag to be one of the four best teams in the world after becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-final of the World Cup in Qatar late last year.
Bafana paid that pedigree no mind, stunning their North African rivals in a 2-0 defeat to record one of their most impressive wins at Afcon.
