Legendary South African playwright and musician, Mbongeni Ngema has died. He died in a car accident in KZN a few hours ago.
He is mostly known for Sarafina and his song Isitimela Sase Zola.
His death was confirmed by renowned poet Mzwakhe Mbuli.
“It is true, Mbongeni Ngema is no more. It’s the saddest news ever to close off the year.”
He said they were coming from a funeral in Bizana in Eastern Cape when they were involved in a car accident.
“They were coming from a funeral in Bizana, and they got involved in an accident. I just spoke to the family, and they are shattered and devastated. We have suggested that they prepare a statement because there are already rumours. But the fact is he’s no more,” he said.
Mbongeni is known for co-writing the legendary film and theatre show Sarafina!
