A prominent taxi boss has been apprehended in Pretoria on the count of serious charges including extortion, fraud, intimidation, murder, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The arrest, orchestrated by SAPS members based on actionable intelligence, unfolded at a residence in East Silver Lakes, Pretoria, where the suspect had purportedly sought refuge to evade capture.
The arrest comes on the heels of diligent police work, with the suspect reportedly navigating between the Eastern Cape, East London, and Pretoria, attempting to evade law enforcement. Identified as the primary suspect, he was taken into custody on warrants related to a Nyanga murder and double attempted murder case.
Additional warrants were issued for his involvement in a Mfuleni case concerning the possession of an unlicensed firearm and an Ocean View matter involving the impersonation of a police official. Police spokesperson FC van Wyk highlighted the concerted efforts of SAPS members, working tirelessly to trace and apprehend the suspect.
The culmination of their efforts resulted not only in the arrest but also in the seizure of incriminating evidence. Among the confiscated items were a 9mm Glock pistol with 15 rounds, laptops, cellular phones, a white Ford Ranger, and pertinent vehicle documents. The suspect is slated to face charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, with a scheduled appearance in the Pretoria Central Magistrate Court on Monday.
