The matriculation examination often brings a whirlwind of stress and frustration for many students. The pressure to perform well, coupled with expectations from family and society, creates an intense atmosphere of anxiety. Sleepless nights, endless revisions, and mounting academic pressure become the norm. The fear of failure looms large, adding to the mental burden. Coping with this stress demands a delicate balance between studying effectively and maintaining mental well-being.

Finding support systems, managing time efficiently, and adopting healthy coping mechanisms are crucial to navigate this challenging phase. Underage drinking in South Africa presents a complex societal challenge. Despite legal restrictions, it remains prevalent due to various factors like cultural norms, accessibility, and insufficient enforcement. The consequences are dire, with increased risks of accidents, health issues, and academic setbacks.

Addressing this issue demands a multifaceted approach involving education, stricter enforcement of laws, parental involvement, and community engagement. Implementing effective prevention programs and promoting responsible alcohol consumption are crucial steps. Additionally, fostering open dialogues about the dangers of underage drinking and providing support for those affected can contribute to curbing this concerning trend for a healthier future generation.

“No one is judging, but teenagers nowadays are out of line when it comes to alcohol. You don’t have to agree with my opinion because I also equally drink & get drunk with my friends. But we need to start thinking beyond our immediate self. This is wrong, even in my first year in varsity I literally spend it without drinking and using drugs. No one was monitoring us & I had all the freedom, but still it wasn’t easy to go out for drinks.” @Miz_Ruraltarian posted on Twitter.

Media influence & failed parenting, yes they’re allowed to drink! Ask yourself when you were 18 years old, did you consume alcohol at this rate? No one is judging, but sonetimes whatever our societal expectations were of we good for us!… pic.twitter.com/aBFZ5u00sB
