A grim and unsettling discovery has shaken the community of Steenberg, as the lifeless body of 17-year-old Tashneecka Prins was found on a field on October 30, 2023. The circumstances surrounding her death are raising serious concerns and have sparked a murder investigation by Steenberg police.

Tashneecka’s grandmother, who had seen her granddaughter the day before, received the devastating news while attending a church service. The sight that met her was a heartbreaking one – the lifeless body of her beloved granddaughter, who reportedly displayed signs of physical trauma, including a swollen face and a significant head wound. Adding to the horror of the situation, the young girl was discovered covered with a carpet.

The unknown suspect or suspects responsible for this heinous crime managed to escape the scene, leaving a community in shock and despair. As of the present, no arrests have been made in connection with this tragic incident.

Local law enforcement, Steenberg police, have initiated a thorough investigation into this murder, but the community is left grappling with the loss of a promising young life. This incident underscores the pressing need for concerted efforts to combat violence against women and girls in South Africa.
