Two men and a 2 months old child were shot dead in KwaMashu hostel on Wednesday.
Mr Nkululeko Mthethwa (29) and Mr Khulekani Phelelani Gasa (28) died in this incident. A two-month-old child was also shot and injured.Gasa’s relative from uLundi who did not want to be revealed that the deceased was not staying at the hostel much because he got a job guarding a certain area in Durban.
Narrating the incident, the owner of the house where the incident happened, who also asked not to be named because he felt it unsafe, said the incident happened at dusk, he had just returned from work. He said he left his house and went to the toilet. ” On the way I met Nkululeko Mthethwa walking with the mother of his child, who was holding the child. The mother of Nkululeko’s child asked me if there is a woman I joke with in the house. They are friends, they often visit each other’s house. I refused and said he was not there, I continued on my way,” said a man.
“When I came out, I noticed that the people I passed were doing their things at the door, and they were at the tap, and then they were gone. When I got closer to the house, I realized that the door had been hit by a bullet, so I ran away to hide myself,” he said.
He continued and said that he came closer after a while, when he saw other people coming out of the houses. “I found Nkululeko dead towards the door. Khulekani Gasa was in the room, shouting for help, he was shot in the stomach,” he said. He also said that he could not find out how they were attacked because the mother of the child who happened was present, she was confused, and rushed to take her child to the hospital.
“I was very shocked. I don’t understand why they will shoot at my house. I don’t have an enemy that I know of, it confuses me that people would attack my house,” said the man. Another member of Gasa’s family explained about the killing of his member, saying that they were pained by the brutality of the killers.
She said what makes it so sad is that the deceased went to talk to them about the difficulties of living in this criminal hostel. He said he was saying that when there are incidents of killing people in this hostel, people remain silent even if they don’t know because they feel they are not safe.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the KwaMashu police are investigating two cases of murder and one of attempted murder.
