Former Bafana Bafana international Mzuvukile Tom has dropped a massive bombshell where he revealed how he handled his money during his playing career which spanned for almost a decade.

The former Bafana Bafana left back defender who enjoyed a successful 7 year spell at Golden Arrows between 2007 and 2014 has revealed that he started saving his money after signing his first professional contract in the first division at OR Tambo Cosmos in the 2006/07 season.

What’s the story?

On Wednesday, former Bafana Bafana left back defender Mzuvukile Tom who officially announced his retirement from football in July 2015 revealed during his latest interview on KickOff that he saved 70% of his career earnings from football.

“I can declare to you that I saved a lot of money from my playing days because I was never a big spender or flashy. I’m no longer making money that I can compare to my playing days but I’m still surviving and don’t have any stress. I think I made the best decisions with the income I made from my playing days”.

“With me, I always knew that playing football is not a lifetime thing so whatever I was earning I would only spend 30% of that. Whatever I was getting my plan was to save most of that money because I knew that nothing is guaranteed after playing football because loyalty is not a priority”.

“I always knew that football could dump you at any time so saving was my thing. Like they say on the streets, I knew that football money is like the money that they pray for to fly away.”

“I can hear you going on about how I was able to live only on 30%. I did it and it can be done because the target should be to save as much you spend at worst which makes it 50-50 but I went for 30-70”.

Did you know?

Former Bafana Bafana international Mzuvukile Tom who also plied his trade at Mpumalanga Black Aces earned 2 caps during his playing days in the national team setup.
