Two foreign nationals arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle

SAPS and private security have arrested two foreign national men aged 30-year-old and 39-year-old for possession of a stolen white Toyota vehicle. On 26 July 2023, a private security company spotted a suspected vehicle with two male suspects believed to be Zimbabweans that were traveling along the R22 road during a High Density Operation at Hluhluwe area.

The Saps and private security were able to chase and stopped the suspected vehicle at Kwamduku area. Upon confrontation the suspects fled the scene and a chase began immediately, the security called for back up while chasing the suspected vehicle. The suspicious van was found with a false number plate and fraudulent licence disk. It is alleged that this vehicle was hijacked on the same day and sought by Umlazi police.

The two male foreign nationals were charged with possession of stolen vehicle and contravention with immigration act and they appeared before Ubombo Magistrates Court on 27 July 2023.

The perpetrators are in the police custody for a formal bail application and they will show at Ubombo Magistrates Court on 3 August 2023. The law enforcement worked together to put down the suspects and recover the vehicle safe after the spotted it. They committed them selves to find the two perpetrators that attempted to get away but the police and private security officers did not allow that to happen.

The District Commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi has given his gratitude towards the apprehending of the suspects and further appreciated the commitment of all law-enforcement agencies in fighting crime at Umkhanyakude.
