Media personality Azania Mosaka has been accused of ‘abducting’ a gardener suspected of theft. According to City Press, Mosaka allegedly kidnapped Themba Khumalo, who had worked for her as a gardener, and handed him over to unknown men who assaulted him.
Mosaka denied the allegations, saying that she had called Khumalo to offer him a gardening job in the vicinity of her home, but he did not show up. She claimed that she had no idea who the men were or what they did to Khumalo. She also said that she had reported the matter to the police and was cooperating with the investigation.
Khumalo, however, told a different story. He said that he had worked for Mosaka for two months, but she had accused him of stealing her laptop and other items. He said that she had lured him with a job offer and then handed him over to four men who drove him to an isolated place and beat him up. He said that he managed to escape and ran to a nearby petrol station, where he was helped by a security guard.
Khumalo said that he had filed a case of kidnapping and assault against Mosaka at the Midrand police station. He also said that he had not stolen anything from Mosaka and that he was willing to take a lie detector test to prove his innocence.
Mosaka is a well-known broadcaster and journalist who has worked for several radio and television stations, including Metro FM, Power 987, 702 and SABC 3. She is also a businesswoman, speaker, philanthropist and podcaster. She runs a non-profit organisation called Peo Impact Gardens, which develops school gardens in Soweto.
