It seems like criminals don’t sleep or have a holiday to rest and stop breaking the law. Their actions need our police officers and other law enforcement officers to always be vigilant. One of the issues faced by our law enforcement officers is the cross-border crime. The worse part about it is that if you lose your belongings, and they get into another country, it might not be easy to get them.

According to police reports, there was increased visibility of police carried out along the borders of Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. The three borders saw simultaneous execution of all operations and actions from June 15 to June 18, 2023. This shows that our police didn’t spend the long weekend sleeping, as they had work to do.

The operation aimed to stop organized crime, such as transportation of illicit goods, stolen goods, stolen vehicles, drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal firearms and ammunition and many others. Inspections of compliance were carried out at farms, as well as thrift stores, junkyards, tuck shops, and bars.

Police officers were reportedly stationed along all secondary and connecting roads leading into and out of borders. Buses and taxis were among vehicles that underwent road worthiness inspections. People were also searched as part of stop-and-search operations carried out by police.

The good thing is that, the operation resulted in the arrest of Eight people without documentation. Two people were detained for selling drugs and dagga. The suspects are expected to show up in the involved districts’ various magistrate courts very soon.

It is fulfilling to see our South African Police Services securing our borders. Surely, the influx of illegal immigrants in the country will also be controllable when there is robust police visibility. Our police should not put up with any criminal activity, particularly when it occurs within our borders. There should be no peace for lawbreakers.
