If you critically check the history of South African politics, you will get to know that most of the top politicians in the country have involved in one financial scandal or the other. They keep dragging Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala-phala scandal not knowing that most of the members of the African National Congress are also indulging in similar activities. Most of them who are camouflaging to be angels in the eyes of the public are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Allegedly, it was reported that Jacob Zuma who was recently elected as the chairman of SANCO alongside one of his friend looted almost all the money in the bank account of the organization.
According to preliminary reports, Jacob Zuma and Richard Hlope, the provincial secretary, went to their local bank to change the signatories. This act made the now-suspended provincial treasurer of the organisation, Thulani Gamede, said that the matter should be handled by him. Prior to this incident, the two dominant factions of Sanco met and agreed to sort out their differences and form a national interim structure to lead them until a new leadership is in place.
Gamede told Hlophe that issues of finance fall within his ambit and that he should not be sidelined. He added that he was taken aback to learn that the process to change the signatories was done behind his back. In response, Hlophe appears to threaten Gamede, telling him that he was going to “deal” with him because he was destabilising the movement.
This incident has exposed what is actually behind the scenes in SANCO. Many people were initially praising Jacob Zuma that he will lead the organization to huge success but surprisingly, everything turned out sour for them.
