Following the story of Uber and Bolt drivers being attacked at Maponya Mall Friday, Nhlanhla Lux found his name trending on social media as people called for his intervention. It was quite surprising to see the public calling for Nhlanhla Lux to intervene while we have SAPS and the JMPD, or even the Minister of the Police.
“Where is Nhlanhla Lux? Your time has come, now is the time to protect Maponya Mall and its shoppers. Lux said he will protect the people of Soweto. It’s time to protect our brothers and sisters in the e-hailing services against the taxi drivers at Maponya mall. In Lux, we trust.” A social media user said.
Nhlanhla Lux played a vital role in defending the Maponya Mall on the 2021 July unrest from angry protesters. Since then, most people started to complement his actions as they saw him as a leader. He went on to lead a few protests with Operation Dudula, calling for foreign nationals to leave the country.
In the wake of the riots at Maponya Mall on Friday, it is not surprising that some people questioned his whereabouts. It strongly suggests that people believe in his leadership. The calls remain compliments of his remarkable work he has done in the past.
A leader of the Patriotic Alliance in the City of Johannesburg, Kenny Kunene shared pictures of a meeting they had with affected stakeholders and Nhlanhla was part of them. “On the ground at Maponya Mall to meet E-Hailing and taxi associations after cars were burned last night. The meeting went very well. SAPS and JMPD with us. Commander Nhlanhla Lux with me in resolving issues. Salute!” Kunene said.
To others who don’t like him might come as a joke, but it appears that Lux has some influence and people believe in him. He was also seen addressing the media, where he raised issues of ordinary people being caught in the cross fire between taxi drivers and the e-hailing services.
