EFF leader Julius Malema is currently facing a lot of criticism following his recent remarks about the return of former Eskom executives, Brian Molefe and Matshela Koko to address the ongoing energy crisis in South Africa. During a press briefing, Malema defended his stance claiming that they were unjustly targeted under the pretext of state capture.
In an interview on SABC’s Unfiltered program, Malema clarified that he did not call for charges against Koko and Molefe to be dropped. Instead, he expressed the need for assistance in the current crisis urging all patriots to contribute without taking sides or reinstating the individuals in question.
Meanwhile, critics argue that the removal of Koko and Molefe was orchestrated by those seeking to exploit Eskom. They claim that the objective was to hinder the efficient functioning of the company and appoint CEOs who would contribute to its collapse.
Malema’s contradictory behavior has also drawn scrutiny as he initially supported the decision to remove them but later expressed admiration for former President Mbeki and criticized President Zuma.
Malema’s remarks and actions raise questions about his political consistency and loyalty. Based on popular opinions, his views and alliances seem to shift depending on the circumstances, leaving room for doubt regarding his true intentions and convictions.
