After serving three Zulu Kings and helping to instal two of them (King Goodwill and King Misuzulu) amid a fierce contestation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi is said to be leaving his position as the traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu monarch and nation. It has since emerged that the bitter fallout between Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and King Misuzulu KaZwelithini is over the appointment of Inkosi Thanduyise Mzimela as the new chairperson of the Ingonyama Trust Board. In a letter sent to Buthelezi yesterday, King Misuzulu said he was informed that Buthelezi refused to back him (filing supporting affidavits) in his court case against Prince Simakade unless Mzimela is sacked.

Buthelezi issued a statement saying he was never consulted by the king before he appointed Mzimela. Buthelezi is said to be in favour of Judge Jerome Ngwenya’s continuation as the chairperson. But then it was the king’s sole mandate to nominate the chairperson of the board. Even if Misuzulu had to consult anyone that did not mean that he could not appoint or nominate the chairperson if those consulted were against his choice.

In my opinion, it is time for the prince to go and rest. He has served the nation. His record as the traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu nation is impeccable. The Zulu nation owes him endless gratitude. His loyalty to the cause is a marvel to learn about. A great leader, dedicated to he’s people and principled. Many criticise him, but no leader is without faults or opposition. Through Apartheid into the 21st century he is standing tall above everyone else ! A National treasure! South Africa owes him endless gratitude!

Here is what some had to say:

@LethaboMonaba We shall adore and respect the Zulu nation traditional Prime Minister… Well done.. Some of us has learnt leadership from you from afar. Well done Shenge. You ran your race. God bless you and keep you.

@Dabuzz He served the country well. He deserves to leave the limelight and the politicians who serve themselves.

@Maharaj Sad. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi is an amazing man. I am sure he was a good advisor.
