The game of soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, with millions of fans watching and supporting their favorite teams. Every game brings about a level of excitement and drama that keeps fans on the edge of their seats, hoping for their team to come out on top. Such was the case in the recent match between Chiefs and Chippa United.

The match was played on Thursday at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, with Chiefs leading 1-0 during added time after 90 minutes. However, drama ensued during extra time when Chippa United got a corner kick. During the play, Chiefs goalkeeper Peterson and a Chippa United player went for the same ball in the air, resulting in a collision. Peterson lost control of the ball as he tried to handle it, with players scrambling for the ball when it was down before it went in. Despite no sign of a foul in the scramble, the goal was disallowed.

According to idiskiTV soccer analyst Junior Kanye, Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson should have cleared the ball with his fist to avoid trouble, but he chose the wrong option of trying to handle the ball. Unfortunately, he could not keep it under control. Junior admit there was contact in the air when both players went for the same ball, but the “impact” was not significant. He also expressed concern about the poor refereeing that has been happening lately in the PSL.

Junior believed the goal should have counted, and the score should have been 1-1. However, despite the controversy, Chiefs managed to hold on to their lead and won the PSL fixture 1-0 at the end.

The game of soccer is not just about the players on the field; it is also about the fans who support their teams through thick and thin. Controversies like the one in Chiefs versus Chippa United match only add to the excitement and passion that fans have for the sport. However, it is essential to remember that soccer is a game of rules, and those rules must be followed to ensure fairness and impartiality.

I guess it will boil down to how much impact was there when both players collided in the air. Did the referee do the right thing by protecting the goalkeeper?

Furthermore, soccer fans need to understand that refereeing is a challenging job. Referees must make decisions quickly and accurately based on their interpretation of the rules. They are also under intense scrutiny and pressure from fans, coaches, and players, making their job even more difficult.
