Yesterday’s by-election results in Paul Roux have brought some significant changes in the political landscape of the Free State.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party has emerged victorious in the by-elections for Ward 17 in Dihlabeng Municipality. The ANC previously held this ward in the 2021 local government elections but had to vacate it following the councillor’s demise.

The EFF’s win in Ward 17 is being seen as a harbinger of change in the political sphere of the Free State.

This victory is not only significant for the EFF but also marks the first time that the ANC has lost power in Paul Roux Ward 17. This victory has also increased the EFF’s grip in the region and has further boosted their popularity.

During the by-election, the EFF secured 56.94% of the votes compared to 39.69% in the 2021 municipal elections.

Meanwhile, the ANC was only able to obtain 36% of the votes. This substantial difference in votes is a clear indication of the rising popularity of the EFF and the decline of the ANC in the region.

This by-election win for the EFF has brought a new sense of hope and motivation among its supporters. The EFF has been advocating for the redistribution of land, nationalization of banks and mines, and a higher minimum wage.

The party’s victory in Paul Roux is being viewed as a sign that people are becoming increasingly aware of their policies and are more likely to vote for them.

In contrast, the ANC’s declining popularity in the region is a cause for concern. The party’s loss in Paul Roux has raised questions about its future in the region. The ANC has been in power in the Free State for over two decades, but recent political events have seen the party’s support wane.

In conclusion, the by-election win in Paul Roux has been a significant victory for the EFF, signaling a growing preference for their policies and ideals in the region.

This victory has also highlighted the ANC’s dwindling popularity, which could have significant implications for the party in the future. It remains to be seen whether this trend will continue or whether the ANC can make a comeback in the upcoming elections.
