African National Congress has announced that on Thursday, they will be rolling a massive protest in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province.

The ANC invited the media to cover their counter protest planned for tomorrow in Ladysmith. Those who marched today are the Inkatha Freedom Party who are their political rivals.

This march is being planned by the ANC’s Josiah Gumede region. Political tensions in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province have been high since the time coalition government came into effect in municipalities which failed to get majority votes and became hung.

ANC said some of the issues that have prompted them to march include lack or shortage of water, crime and corruption. The issue of sewerage spilling into people’s homes and gender based violence.

Inkatha Freedom Party marchers passed along Murchison Street in central Ladysmith. When they passed the headquarters of the ANC in the Josiah Gumede region, they hurled insults, underlining the tensions between the two parties who are always at loggerheads.

Kwa-Zulu Natal MEC for Transport, Sipho Hlomuka was one of the ANC comrades who was targeted by IFP marchers. Hlomuka hails from Ladysmith and is a former regional leader of the ANC. The marchers are claiming he used to run the municipality with a remote.

The first part of the memorandum by IFP marchers was handed over to the Alfred Duma municipality where Mayor Zama Sibisi assured the marchers they will respond to them within the requested 14 days.

Among their demands, IFP marchers asked that the UThukela district municipality must investigate allegations that there are ghost employees who were hired a few years ago.

The peaceful march by IFP members from UThukela was concluded after the marchers delivered their memorandum at UThukela district municipality in Ladysmith. They gave the management 14 days to respond to their demands. similar deadline was given to Alfred Duma.

It seems now the ANC want to counter this march after announcing their own on Thursday.
