After a lengthy absence, Amanda Black is back with her latest single, “Nguwe,” which showcases her signature blend of Afro-pop, hip-hop, R&B, and Xhosa influences. This inspirational song speaks to the importance of self–love and returning to one‘s true self.

The South African singer–songwriter/activist has not released new music since her third studio album Mnyama, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Amanda Black has announced the release of her first single, “Nguwe,” from her upcoming fourth studio album. This new record features her unique blend of R&B, soul, and African tribal melodies, and Amanda has stated that the music on the album reflects the progress she has made in her journey of self–discovery.

She hopes that “Nguwe“ will set the tone for the rest of the album, which promises to be filled with uplifting, hopeful music.

“The music is about falling in love with self, honouring yourself by self-acceptance. The theme and message is spiritual reconnection and trusting herself with her music.”

The song is available on all digital platforms. Listen Here.

Many social media users recently accused the musician of using her self-proclaimed “wokeness” as a tool to promote her latest album, Mnyama. This is due to her frequent political posts, which oftentimes land her on the Twitter trends list. Despite the criticism, the artist has been unwavering in her activism, making it clear that she won’t shy away from the pressing issues affecting South Africa.

In a recent interview with news reporters, the musician discussed why she had used her social media to raise awareness about political issues. She stated that, as a celebrity, she is uniquely positioned to use her voice to speak for those who can’t speak for themselves.
