The African National Congress (ANC) has released a statement condemning the upcoming national shutdown by the EFF, saying that such national shutdown is never and has never been the best for the nation. It is contained in a statement released via their official Twitter handle as contained in a secular.
The ruling party said that the EFF does not mean well for the nation, saying that a country that just emerged from the hardship economy imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic; the infamous July unrest shouldn’t be shutdown because of one party called the EFF.
In the letter which was tagged for immediate release, it says that the EFF want to invoke the Arab spring ideologies into South Africa through their so-called populist practices, urging well-meaning South Africans to shun and disregard such gatherings. The ANC commended South Africans for the support being given to the party and the government, urging them to continue to get the very best which the ANC stands for.
Furthermore, the ANC through the secular commended the taxi industry for shunning the past shutdowns, asking them to continue to promote lasting peace which is the bedrock of development. The party condemned the shutdown in its entirety, saying that the EFF want to cripple the economy and put the people into hardship. The EFF is planning a nationwide shutdown, saying that president Cyril Ramaphosa is not doing well. The EFF also hinted that load shedding is part of the reason they are organizing the national shutdown, inviting everyone who has been affected by the load shedding to join them. Nevertheless, many people would have joined the shutdown, but they are not pleased that it is being organized by the EFF. However, the EFF has promised that the impact will be felt as Julius Malema, EFF founder and president, has repeatedly said that there is no going back on the shutdown.
