Crimes of passion take place every single day in South Africa, but one could also say that they are crimes of hate. Many families have lost loved ones and are still in mourning because their loved one was murdered by someone they were in a relationship with. There are a number of cases of gender-based violence in the country, and the victims are now in their graves. Gender-based violence is the kind of violence in the country that will take time to overcome, because it happens every single day and takes place not only in the comfort of people’s homes but also outside of them.
It is one of the acts of violence for which citizens feel like the government should play a more important role in ensuring that those who commit this kind of violence get punished to the point where those who think of committing the same crimes will not do it. Gender-based violence in South Africa has almost become so normal that there is a new case of it every single day.
The recent case that has left people in shock and still coming to terms with what happened is one of a well-known comedian who is from Venda and is popularly known as Sabc Livhu by his fans, but whose full name is Livhuwane. This man was popular on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and people were left in shock when it was reported that he had been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife.
This is after he went to the police to report her missing, and she was found in a water-filled pit toilet in their yard, leading some to believe that he might have murdered her. A day before the incident, the wife had withdrawn charges of abuse against him. The comedian appeared in court, and he expressed a lot of emotion when he begged and pleaded with the judge to be given an opportunity to attend his wife’s funeral.
