The driver of a mini bus taxi abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot after he ran over five (5) children between Isihlangu and Pricklepear Road in Waterloo, KwaZulu-Natal. This is a tragedy that could have otherwise been avoided if the driver had stayed focus on the job, it has been revealed that the driver proceeded to run away from the scene and we can all understand why he would do so.
Either to run away from community members who were surely going to express their concerns in a violent manner, or he escaped in order to avoid going to jail and it happens if the suspect was found to be under the influence of something – in either case the suspect has to be punished with many years in jail to be made an example out of.
RUSA arrived on scene at approximately 17:57 where they assessed the situation and tried very hard to revive and heal the injuries of the children who got into the accident, a white Toyota Siyaya ran over five minors who were playing on the road before it crashed into a wire fence.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, he did not look back at the mess that he had done but we know that the Law will look back and he will likely be arrested for a very long time. The injured children were rushed privately to a medical facility, the medical staff did all in their power to help the children who were affected by the accident.
According to a resident, one of the minors was seriously injured however this could not be immediately confirmed. The story is still fresh and we will tell about the results of the accident as things are not very apparent, the cause of the accident is also not very clear at this moment but speeding cannot be ruled out.
