Rapper Pitch Black Afro has been found guilty of culpable homicide for the death of his wife Catherine Modisane.
Pitch Black, who’s real name is Thulani Ngcobo has been on trial in South Gauteng High Court for the murder of his wife Catherine Modisane’s death two years ago at a bed and breakfast in Yeoville, Johannesburg.
He was also on trial for defeating the ends of justice however was found not guilty for that crime.
The judgement was expected to be heard on Wednesday however he failed to appear in court.
Judge J du Plessis said the state did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that Ngcobo had planned to kill his wife. The judge also said that it was clear from the postmortem report that she died from ‘blunt-force trauma’ to the head.
IOL reports that the jude did not find any evidence that proves Ngcobo intended to kill Modisane.
“I cannot find beyond reasonable doubt that the accused intended to kill the deceased. They were both inebriated, he reacted with overly drastic violence. In doing so, he acted unlawfully,” said Du Plessis.
According to TshisaLive, the former rapper denied any wrongdoing and claims that the police forced him to admit to his crimes.
“I won’t take this lying down. Bayang’sukela.. They’ve wasted one-and-a-half years of my life,” he told the publication.
Sentencing will be heard this Friday.
