The Absa Premiership’s big guns could lose out on Joseph Mhlongo as interest in the 29-year-old Black Leopards striker escalates.
Mhlongo has been linked with a number of high profile clubs in the league for several months, most notably both Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
However, Leopards have managed to hold on to the forward since the club’s return to Mzansi’s topflight in 2018.
But with the player approaching the end of his contract with Lidoda Duvha, with his deal is set to expire in June, indications are that he could be on his way to KwaZulu-Natal.
According to sources, AmaZulu have emerged as favourites to land Mhlongo’s signature, who is believed to be keen on moving during the current January window rather than signing a pre-contract and waiting, as he is eligible to do so now that he has entered into the last six months of his existing deal.
“Negotiations are in progress between Black Leopards and Joseph Mhlongo’s representatives about the player’s possible exit from the club. There’s interest in the boy from a few clubs in the PSL but it’s AmaZulu that are seriously keen on him. He’s likely to join AmaZulu if he leaves Leopards,” said the source.
