Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy, who enjoyed a successful second season with Citizens after winning the MTN8 trophy as well as securing another top-eight position, is currently on vacation in Scotland.
It’s believed that the Amakhosi hierarchy will meet up with McCarthy, who is yet to renew his contract with the Citizens, in the UK to have talks regarding a possible move to Soweto.
Chiefs have Ernst Middendorp as coach, but they could still make changes in that department before pre-season gets underway.
It’s no secret that Amakhosi, who have hit an all-time low, are desperate for a winning coach to bring back the glory days to Naturena after completing a fourth season without any silverware.
City chairman John Comitis is in the dark regarding Chiefs’ attempt to lure McCarthy to the Glamour Boys.
“No, I am not aware of this,” Comitis told KickOff.com.
“But there’s nothing I can do. It’s like something attacking your country, you know. You can counter-attack by keeping them away,” Comitis said.
The former Ajax Cape Town boss, meanwhile, did confirm to our website that City’s winger Craig Martin will not be sold in the near future.
Martin has been heavily linked to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns since bursting on the scene two seasons ago.
