MK Party national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela has confirmed that party MP Vusi Shongwe was hijacked and kidnapped on Monday night. Shongwe was taken around 10 PM and held for five hours before being released around 3 AM. His phone, other devices, and money were taken during the incident.
Ndlela stated that Shongwe is now safe but visibly shaken. The kidnapping of a sitting MP has sparked public concern over the safety of public officials and the effectiveness of security responses.
As news spread online, some social media users referenced public figure Cat Matlala in reactions to the incident, though these comments remain separate from the official details of the case.
The MK Party has called for calm while police investigate. The incident has fueled broader national discussions about crime, political safety, and the vulnerability of high-profile individuals in South Africa.
