A high-profile divorce settlement involving Kaizer Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung has made headlines after it was revealed that he will have to part with millions of rands in assets and support following the finalisation of his divorce.

The court-ordered settlement follows a protracted legal battle between Motaung and his estranged wife, with whom he shares a decades-long relationship. According to sources close to the matter, the separation became official earlier this year, but financial negotiations regarding property, vehicles, and spousal support took several months to conclude.

Legal documents reportedly show that the settlement includes a multi-million rand mansion in an affluent Johannesburg suburb, several luxury vehicles, and a lump-sum cash payout. In addition, monthly spousal maintenance has been agreed upon, although the specific figure remains confidential.

The divorce, while kept out of the public eye during initial proceedings, became the subject of media speculation as word spread of a legal wrangle involving high-value assets. Neither party has issued a public statement, but close associates of the Motaung family confirm that the split has been emotionally and financially taxing for both sides.

Sources suggest that the breakdown in the marriage was caused by years of personal differences, lifestyle incompatibilities, and allegations of infidelity. Despite efforts at reconciliation, the relationship reportedly became untenable, leading to legal separation proceedings initiated last year.

Bobby Motaung, who is both a prominent football administrator and member of the founding family of Kaizer Chiefs, has kept a low profile amid the personal turmoil. Insiders at the club insist that the divorce has not affected his role or influence at Naturena, where he remains a key figure in player signings and management decisions.

Public reaction to the news has been mixed. Some fans have expressed sympathy, while others have questioned the impact of the settlement on Motaung’s business and football interests. “It’s always sad to see families go through such things, especially in the public eye, said a longtime supporter of the club.

The divorce comes at a time when Kaizer Chiefs are also undergoing a leadership and performance review, with growing pressure to deliver better results on the pitch after several trophyless seasons.

For now, Bobby Motaung is expected to focus on stabilising both his personal life and professional responsibilities, as the dust settles on what is one of the most expensive and closely watched divorce settlements in South African sports history.
