The Polokwane High Court has dismissed an urgent bail appeal by controversial rapper Shebe Maburna, whose real name is Lehlohonolo Chauke.
Maburna was denied bail last month by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on multiple charges, including three counts of attempted murder. Acting Judge Natalie Burnett ruled there were no exceptional circumstances to justify his release, despite his popularity as a musician.
The National Prosecuting Authority in Limpopo welcomed the decision. NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi stated that the state had opposed bail due to the seriousness of the charges.
Maburna remains in custody as his case proceeds.
