Collen Malatji has been re-elected unopposed as president of the ANC Youth League at its conference in Polokwane.
The election results were announced in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Fransicor Dyantyi was elected deputy president, with Tsakani Shiviti as secretary-general and Zama Khanyase as her deputy. Venus Blennies-Magape and Jacob Tau were named second deputy president and treasurer-general, respectively.
Malatji’s unopposed re-election had been anticipated, with reports suggesting his slate was set to dominate the uncontested leadership race. Despite the lack of competition, Malatji previously stated the Youth League upholds democratic practices and that he was prepared to be challenged, even from the conference floor.
The ANCYL is aiming to rebuild after years of organizational inactivity and regain its role as the party’s influential youth wing.
