Shebeshxt’s Bail Hearing Reveals Long List of Violent Allegations as Court Decides His Fate

Popular Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego “Shebeshxt” Chauke returned to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court for the continuation of his bail application, where the State strongly opposed his release. The courtroom was filled with members of the public, journalists and police officers as the investigating officer laid out a detailed account of the rapper’s criminal record, pending cases and allegations of violent conduct.

Investigating officer Phaladi Makola gave testimony that painted a troubling picture of Chauke’s past and present legal battles. He began by confirming that Shebeshxt has a previous conviction dating back to 2018 in Lebowakgomo, where he paid a small fine after admitting guilt. While that case was minor, Makola argued that the musician’s recent behaviour shows a pattern of escalating violence.

According to Makola, Chauke is currently facing two attempted murder charges, both scheduled for trial in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court from 18 to 20 February 2026. He reminded the court that Chauke had been granted R5 000 bail for those matters on the condition that he should not commit any Schedule 1 offences. Despite this, Makola claimed that the musician went on to commit further violent acts.

The court heard that two of the victims in his cases died from stab-related injuries — one allegedly involving a sharp metal object and another involving a knife. In addition to the attempted murder cases, Shebeshxt is also linked to charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery with aggravating circumstances. The robbery allegedly involved the theft of a Huawei P Smart phone, a car battery and a branded cap.

Makola further described a shooting incident in Seshego Zone 2, where a man said he only approached the musician to greet him at a music event. According to the statement, Chauke allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot him. The weapon reportedly used in the shooting has never been recovered. Makola added that Chauke’s alleged accomplice, Thabiso Malatji, also fired a shot. Malatji’s firearm has been confiscated for ballistic testing, and he is currently wanted on a warrant of arrest.

The officer also raised concerns about previous cases that were mysteriously withdrawn. In one instance, the complainant’s signature was allegedly forged. When the investigating officer visited the complainant, the man reportedly expressed shock that the case had been closed without his knowledge. Signature comparisons later showed inconsistencies.

Makola concluded by telling the court that Shebeshxt has never been licensed to own a firearm, despite several allegations involving guns.

The bail hearing has been postponed and is expected to continue as the court weighs the seriousness of the allegations against the musician’s application for release.
