KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has testified before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee about the serious misuse of police crime intelligence funds.
Commissioner Mkhwanazi revealed that secret police funds were used to build a perimeter wall at the private home of former Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa. He stated this was done without Mthethwa’s knowledge or request.
Mkhwanazi presented this as a key example of deep-rooted corruption and the abuse of public funds within the Crime Intelligence division. He has called for urgent intervention to address the systemic problem.
