KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi has accused members of Crime Intelligence of misusing secret funds and linking their actions to the late former Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa.
Mkhwanazi’s testimony has raised new questions about long-standing corruption within police intelligence structures and the misuse of classified budgets. He called for independent vetting and lifestyle audits within SAPS.
Mkhwanazi said corrupt officials had used the minister’s name to justify spending from the secret fund account.
“The minister never asked for that wall. Members from Crime Intelligence took the money from the secret fund account to make that wall, so they can get hold of the minister to loot it themselves,” he said.
