Ford Recalls Ranger, Everest, EcoSport, and Puma Over Safety Defects

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed that Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa is recalling several of its vehicles due to safety concerns. The affected models include the Ford Ranger, Everest, EcoSport, and Puma, with some dating back to 2021.

Recalled Vehicles and Defects

  1. Ford Ranger and Everest (2022-2025 Models)

    • Models Affected: Wildtrak and Platinum variants with 3.0L Lion engines.

    • Issue: The left-hand camshaft sprocket may fracture, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly. This could lead to a sudden loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.

  2. Ford Puma (November 2021 – September 2024 Models)

    • Issue: A fuel line may rub against a bracket, potentially damaging the line and causing a fuel leak. This could result in an engine stall or, in extreme cases, a fire.

    • Warning Signs: Fuel odour, visible leaks under the vehicle, or smoke from fuel touching a hot surface.

  3. Ford EcoSport (2021-2022 Models with 6F15 Automatic Transmission)

    • Issue: The front half shafts may not have been fully inserted into the transmission during assembly. This could cause the half shaft to disengage, leading to a loss of engine power.

    • Additional Risk: If the vehicle is placed in “Park” without the parking brake engaged, it may roll away unexpectedly.

What Owners Should Do

Acting NCC Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu urged affected owners to contact their nearest Ford dealership immediately for a free inspection and necessary repairs. The recalled vehicles were sold nationwide.

Other Recent Vehicle Recalls

In May, the NCC also announced recalls for several other brands, including Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler, Citroën, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW Polo and Sedan, and Volvo. These recalls were due to defects in airbags, axles, batteries, and seatbelts.

Consumers are advised to check with manufacturers or dealerships if they believe their vehicle may be affected.
