Renowned preacher Dr. Simon “SD” Gumbi, best known for his iconic phrase “U-Amen Usekhona?”, has passed away at the age of 66. The beloved man of God died on Monday evening, 14 July 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Dr. Gumbi rose to fame through his powerful sermons on Ukhozi FM’s Sunday night broadcasts, where his passionate delivery and signature catchphrase endeared him to many. In recent years, his health had declined significantly, leaving him wheelchair-bound and requiring the amputation of his right leg.
His family confirmed his passing in a live Facebook announcement. His son, Pastor Nhlapo, shared the somber news: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Dr. Moyeni Simon Gumbi, who has gone to be with the Lord after his long battle with illness. He fought a good fight, and we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace.”
The family requested prayers and support during this difficult time, urging the public to refrain from speculation and instead stand with them in mourning. Funeral arrangements will be shared at a later date.
Dr. Gumbi’s legacy as a spiritual leader and radio personality has left an indelible mark on South Africa’s faith community, with tributes pouring in from listeners and fellow clergy. His uplifting messages and unwavering faith will be deeply missed.
May his soul rest in peace.
