MK Party Removes Spokesperson from Parliamentary Role Amid Dispute

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has dismissed its spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, from the parliamentary whippery team—a decision Ndhlela insists must be approved by party leader Jacob Zuma.

MKP parliamentary leader Dr. John Hlophe confirmed the removal during a media briefing today, supported by Chief Whip Colleen Makhubele. He stated that a June 23 letter dismissing Ndhlela was legitimate, despite Ndhlela’s claim that he never received it.

At a later caucus meeting, Ndhlela reportedly argued that his removal was invalid without Zuma’s approval. Hlophe refused to seek Zuma’s endorsement, standing by the decision.

The conflict stems from two letters—one accusing Ndhlela of disruptive behavior and factionalism, and another sent to Zuma naming Ndhlela and Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla (Zuma’s daughter) as sources of chaos in meetings. Hlophe criticized Ndhlela for insulting Makhubele and accused Zuma-Sambudla of interrupting proceedings.

Hlophe denied rumors of a petition to remove Makhubele, calling them false and affirming her position. He blamed internal tensions on individuals pushing personal agendas.

Ndhlela maintains that he never received the dismissal letter and questioned its validity. He downplayed divisions, calling the caucus “strong” and confirming Makhubele’s role.

The dispute reflects deeper tensions within the MKP over authority and discipline, with Hlophe asserting parliamentary control despite potential friction with Zuma.
