Julius Malema Amused as Floyd Shivambu Faces Another Setback

Political analyst Makhudu Sefara suggests Julius Malema might be laughing at his former deputy Floyd Shivambu’s latest troubles, this time within the MK Party.

Shivambu, who left the EFF in 2024, was abruptly removed as secretary-general of the MK Party on June 3, 2025, just after his appointment. He was reassigned to Parliament, seen by many as a reprimand for an unauthorized meeting with controversial prophet Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi.

Malema didn’t miss the chance to mock his former ally. Speaking to a crowd outside Presley Chweneyagae’s home, he smirked, “I don’t work with Floyd anywhere… Where is he here?” He added, “If he comes to Parliament… he will find us rolling.” Sefara believes Malema’s choice of words hints at his amusement over Shivambu’s struggles.

Their once-close relationship, which shaped the EFF, has grown increasingly bitter since Shivambu’s departure. Malema has repeatedly distanced himself, recently stating he has “no ties in any capacity” to Shivambu.

Sefara notes the irony: Malema, who once compared Shivambu’s exit to “losing his mother,” now seems to enjoy watching his former ally falter. “It must be a delightful moment for Malema to see Shivambu’s goose being cooked,” he writes.

Political analysts say the rift between the two factions is widening. With the MK Party struggling internally and the EFF maintaining its unity in Parliament, Sefara expects more clashes ahead.

For now, the spotlight remains on Malema’s visible satisfaction—a reminder that in politics, former allies can quickly become targets of ridicule.
