Shivambu Poised to Unveil ‘Mayibuye iAfrica’ at Midrand Media Briefing

Floyd Shivambu, the former secretary-general of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, appears to be preparing to announce the formation of a new political movement at a press briefing expected taking place around noon today at the Capital Hotel in Midrand.
The event, which is being held without the MK Party’s backing, has led to speculation that Shivambu could be launching a party possibly named “Mayibuye iAfrica.”
The announcement would come on the heels of his recent dismissal from the MK Party’s leadership, triggered by his unapproved visit to Shepherd Bushiri’s church in Malawi.

Sources close to the matter suggest that Shivambu’s potential new party is aimed at rallying disillusioned members from the MK Party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and African National Congress (ANC), with a focus on economic transformation and grassroots mobilization.
The MK Party has distanced itself from today’s proceedings, with spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela saying the party had not been informed and did not authorize the briefing.
Political observers are unsure what to make of the development. While some believe Shivambu could shake up the country’s political dynamics, others remain skeptical, noting his pattern of switching allegiances first from the EFF to the MK Party in August 2024, and now possibly to an entirely new entity.
