President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe, a dedicated public servant and advocate for women’s rights, who died at the age of 64. In a heartfelt statement, the President extended his condolences to her family, friends, and comrades, honoring her decades of service to South Africa.

“Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe’s passing is not only a loss to her loved ones but to the entire nation,” President Ramaphosa said. “Her life was defined by an unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and the upliftment of women.”

Mnganga-Gcabashe served as a prominent leader in the African National Congress Women’s League, where she championed gender equality and ensured women’s voices were central to political discourse. Known for her bold advocacy, she played a key role in advancing policies that empowered women across the country.

Beyond her work in the Women’s League, she chaired Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Tourism, where she focused on strategies to grow South Africa’s tourism sector as a driver of economic development and job creation. President Ramaphosa highlighted her belief in tourism’s potential to transform livelihoods and praised her contributions to shaping inclusive policies in the industry.

“Her leadership in Parliament and the Women’s League was the continuation of a lifelong fight for freedom and fairness,” the President remarked. “From the struggle against apartheid to her work in democratic institutions, she remained steadfast in her service to the people.”

President Ramaphosa concluded his tribute with a prayer for her peaceful rest: “May her soul find eternal peace. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations to build a more just and equitable South Africa.”

Mnganga-Gcabashe’s passing has been met with widespread mourning, as colleagues and activists reflect on her enduring impact. Her work in advancing women’s rights and economic inclusion leaves a lasting imprint on the nation’s journey toward equality.

As South Africa remembers her life, her contributions serve as a reminder of the power of dedicated leadership in shaping a better future for all.
