Former Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament Renaldo Gouws has issued a public apology for his past racist comments, specifically addressing Julius Malema and the broader black community. In a statement marked by remorse, Gouws acknowledged the deep hurt and offense caused by his words, taking full responsibility for their harmful impact.

Gouws admitted that his remarks were unacceptable and recognized the pain they inflicted. He stated that there was no excuse for his language or the attitudes he had expressed, acknowledging that they contradicted principles of equality and respect. He emphasized his regret, saying he was truly sorry for the damage caused.

Reflecting on South Africa’s history, Gouws conceded that his past behavior contributed to racial divisions and social injustice. He noted that such comments—whether made out of ignorance or anger—carry real consequences in a nation still recovering from apartheid’s legacy. He pledged to learn from his mistakes, committing to personal growth through reflection and accountability.

Directing his apology to Julius Malema, Gouws expressed regret for any personal offense caused, recognizing Malema’s role as a political leader and advocate for many in the black community. He admitted that his actions had disrespected not only Malema but also the dignity of those he represents.

In closing, Gouws vowed to use his platform to foster unity and reconciliation, urging others to confront their own biases. He called for collective efforts to build a more inclusive society where all individuals are treated with fairness and compassion.
