Search for Missing Six-Year-Old Joslin Smith Takes a New Turn After Mother’s Shocking Claim

Authorities and the community of Saldanha Bay remain on high alert as the search for six-year-old Joslin Smith continues. Joslin was reported missing on February 19, 2024, prompting an extensive search by both local residents of Diazville and law enforcement. However, the investigation has taken a dramatic turn following a startling statement made by her mother, Kelly Smith.

According to an anonymous source, Smith allegedly told one of Joslin’s teachers that the child had been kidnapped by individuals from Nigeria. It remains unclear whether this claim was based on concrete evidence or mere speculation. Despite this development, Western Cape police have not established any connection between Joslin’s disappearance and foreign nationals. Authorities have urged the public to avoid making unverified claims, as misinformation could hinder the investigation.

Smith’s credibility is now under scrutiny. She, along with her partner Elvis Meyer, was among the first individuals questioned by police following Joslin’s disappearance. Meyer and two others were later arrested on human trafficking charges, but the charges were provisionally withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.

Frustration is mounting among community members who feel the case is progressing too slowly. Many continue to participate in search efforts, determined to bring Joslin home. Some residents believe stricter legal action should be taken against those suspected of involvement in her disappearance.

Despite the latest claims, police are pursuing all possible leads. Western Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, reaffirmed their commitment to solving the case.

“Our investigation remains thorough and ongoing. We urge the public to come forward with any credible information that may assist us,” said Traut.

As authorities work to verify Smith’s statement, the search for Joslin remains a top priority, with hope still alive for her safe return.
