Popular sangoma Gogo Maweni has been arrested on charges of assault, with cases dating back to 2019. Her arrest, confirmed by the police, has taken social media by storm as users react to the unfolding developments.
The arrest was carried out by members of Gauteng’s cold case and counterintelligence units, who followed leads to Maweni’s residences in Fairlands and later Mondeor, Johannesburg. She was ultimately detained at the Mondeor Police Station on Sunday.
According to an investigating officer, Maweni is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrates’ Court today, where bail will be opposed. She is reportedly linked to five additional cases under investigation in Eldorado Park, Mondeor, Moroka, and two separate incidents in Orange Farm and Bekkersdal.
Adding to the controversy, Maweni’s former friend, Gogo Skhotheni, has made public accusations via social media, claiming that Maweni hired “inkabi” (hitmen) to assassinate her husband. These allegations have fueled public interest, further amplifying discussions online.
