A Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer was tragically shot and killed, allegedly by her partner, in a shocking incident at her home in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West, on Tuesday.

According to authorities, the suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle and headed to Limpopo, where they were later apprehended. TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba stated that it remains unclear whether an argument led to the fatal shooting or how the firearm came into the suspect’s possession.

TMPD Offers Support to Family and Colleagues

“The TMPD stands united during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of our late colleague as they endure this profound loss,” said Mahamba. He added that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

Details of the victim’s identity remain undisclosed as officials continue to notify her family and relatives.

Acting TMPD Chief Nomsa Nhlapo extended her condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. She called for the public’s patience and respect as the legal process unfolds, emphasizing the importance of allowing justice to take its course.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Previous Incident Involving Gauteng Officers

In a separate tragedy earlier this year, two off-duty Gauteng traffic officers, Jane Kgaba and Dalindyebo Dineka, were found dead in Debonair Park, De Deur, in the Vaal.

The officers, who were last seen at an after-tears event, reportedly had a disagreement before leaving. Their departure was followed by gunfire. Authorities alleged that Kgaba shot Dineka four times before turning the gun on herself. She was found with a fatal gunshot wound to her head.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement officers both on and off duty, as well as the need for continued support and mental health resources within the profession.
