It’s time for Ndlozi to leave the EFF

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) recently held its third elective conference at Nasrec, Johannesburg, where Julius Sello Malema was re-elected unopposed as party president for a third term. The EFF does not impose term limits on its leadership, allowing Malema to maintain his position at the helm.

However, the conference was overshadowed by the conspicuous absence of Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, a prominent EFF member and former party spokesperson. Reports suggest that Ndlozi was barred from attending the National People’s Assembly (NPA) by party leadership, though these claims remain unverified.

Speculation About Ndlozi’s Standing in the EFF

Tensions between Ndlozi and the EFF leadership, particularly Malema, have been brewing for some time. Following the departure of former deputy president Floyd Shivambu, reports indicate that Ndlozi has faced marginalization within the party. Allegedly, Malema has trust issues and suspects that Ndlozi may be considering leaving the organization.

When questioned by the media about Ndlozi’s absence from the conference, Malema responded emotionally, stating, “The EFF is not centred around Ndlozi.” This curt remark fueled further speculation about a strained relationship between the two leaders.

Ndlozi’s Contributions and Prospects

Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is a respected academic with a PhD in philosophy. As a former spokesperson, he played a pivotal role in elevating the EFF’s profile and was, at one point, considered more popular than Malema. His contributions extend beyond politics, with published research papers both locally and internationally, showcasing his intellectual capabilities.

Critics argue that Ndlozi’s talents are being wasted in the increasingly toxic environment of the EFF. His sidelining by the party leadership has led many to suggest that he should consider pursuing opportunities in academia, where his skills as a scholar and researcher could be more fully appreciated.

A Crossroads for Ndlozi

As the EFF consolidates its leadership under Malema for another term, Ndlozi faces a critical decision about his future in the party. Many believe he should leave the EFF and contribute to the country’s academic landscape, where his intellect and expertise would be valued without the political drama.

For the EFF, the departure of a figure like Ndlozi would mark a significant loss, highlighting the challenges of retaining top talent in a political environment often shaped by personality conflicts and power struggles.
