EFF MP Exposes Zuma Government’s Payments to Chris Hani’s Killer, Sparks Outrage

An explosive revelation from an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament has set off a storm of shock and anger within South Africa’s political landscape. The MP alleged that during former President Jacob Zuma’s administration, the government paid a monthly sum of R40,000 to Janusz Waluś, the man convicted of assassinating anti-apartheid hero Chris Hani in 1993.

The allegation has sparked outrage, especially considering the revered status of Chris Hani. A key figure in the South African Communist Party (SACP) and a prominent leader in the struggle against apartheid, Hani’s murder occurred just as the country stood on the brink of democracy. His death was a traumatic loss for the nation, and for many, it represented the sacrifice of a true freedom fighter.

The EFF MP expressed deep dissatisfaction, condemning the payments to Waluś, a man who took the life of a national hero. “I will never forget that Zuma’s government was paying Chris Hani’s killer R40,000 each month,” the MP declared. “This was a betrayal of the principles and values for which Hani stood.” The shocking revelation has reignited discussions around accountability, particularly in the context of financial decisions made by the Zuma administration.

Many South Africans, including political commentators, are questioning the transparency of the Zuma government’s financial management and are calling for a review of past decisions that seem to undermine the sacrifices made by icons like Hani. For some, this disclosure underscores the need for government accountability and the importance of ensuring that public resources align with the democratic values South Africa fought so hard to achieve.

The African National Congress (ANC), the party once led by Zuma, has yet to issue an official response to these claims. However, the exposure has further fueled pressure on the party to address its past controversies and restore public trust.

For the EFF and other opposition parties, this revelation is a stark reminder of their call for transparency, fairness, and justice in government decisions. The incident serves as a painful but necessary reflection on South Africa’s history, as the country continues to navigate the complex legacy of its transition to democracy. It is a powerful demand for accountability to ensure that the principles of freedom and justice remain intact in all governmental actions.
