  • Jacob Zuma, President of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, has appointed Floyd Shivambu as the party’s new Secretary-General.
  • Shivambu replaces Sifiso Maseko, who resigned to return to his role as Chief Director at the Gauteng Health Department.
  • Maseko had replaced Arthur Zwane, who initially attempted to resign before ultimately being removed from the party.
  • The MK Party has not yet announced a replacement for Shivambu’s previous role as National Organiser.

In a significant leadership change within the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, President Jacob Zuma has appointed Floyd Shivambu as the new Secretary-General. Shivambu takes over from Sifiso Maseko, who resigned from the position this week to return to his previous role as Chief Director at the Gauteng Health Department. Maseko himself had recently succeeded Arthur Zwane, who initially attempted to step down before being formally removed from the party.

The appointment of Shivambu marks a pivotal moment for the MK Party, given Shivambu’s political experience and profile within South Africa’s political landscape. His transition into the Secretary-General role is expected to bring a new dynamic to the MK Party’s strategic direction under Zuma’s leadership.

The party has not yet revealed who will fill Shivambu’s prior role as National Organiser, leaving observers curious about further restructuring within the MK Party. Political analysts suggest that the MK Party may look to solidify its organizational framework in the coming weeks, as it seeks to position itself within the national political landscape leading up to the next election cycle.
