Michael Senotse Mabunda, a 42-year-old attorney, was arrested for allegedly committing fraud involving Road Accident Fund claims.
Following a Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, Mr. Mabunda was served with summons in connection with a case registered at the Pretoria North police station in August 2019.
It is reported that Mr. Mabunda, acting as an attorney, filed claims with the Road Accident Fund on behalf of his clients and received a payment of R10,562,173.21 into his trust account.
However, it is alleged that he did not transfer these funds to his clients, causing them to suffer significant financial losses.
Mr. Mabunda made his first appearance in the Pretoria Specialized Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday, 15th October 2024.
The case has been postponed to 26th November 2024 for further proceedings.
