Dr. Winnie Mashaba Criticized for ‘Showing Off’ During Solly Moholo Memorial Visit

A lot of people are mad at gospel singer Dr. Winnie Mashaba because of her tribute to gospel legend Solly Moholo. Mashaba paid her condolences to the Moholo family at their house, which she reached via private plane, and uploaded photos of the event online.

Nevertheless, a large number of social media users voiced their dissatisfaction, claiming that she was exploiting the event for selfish reasons instead of expressing true grief for the passing of another gospel hero. Koena, a Twitter user, asked Mashaba, Is it necessary to show us gore o ile ko Solly Moholo ka folomatshane (Did you need to show us that you went to Solly Moholo in style)?” in reference to her trip promotion.

How much did you donate when the family asked for donations?” Sibo asked Mashaba, accusing her of making the visit about herself. Comments like “You really waited to show off” and “Le rata show off gore, especially ge le bona batho” (You enjoy showing off, especially when people are looking) from other social media users reflected these feelings.

People became sceptical of Mashaba’s motives throughout the visit based on the overall tone of the remarks. Even though the singer was met with criticism, there were many who rallied around her. With a broken heart, God draws nearer, as one commenter put it. I hope he rests in peace. Waves of criticism that followed Mashaba’s article, however, drowned out this support.

My trip to Malome Solly Moholo’s home.
When Mama saw me, she said Ngwanaka I’m happy you are here. The spark in her eyes 😌😌

As I shamelessly continue to mourn my mentor and father in the music industry,” Dr. Mashaba said in her initial post, expressing her anguish. Persevere in your timeless repose. In this era of social media, the boundary between sincere grief and what others may consider as opportunism is being called into question by the backlash.

The impact of this public discussion on Dr. Mashaba’s reputation among her followers and the gospel world has still to be determined, as tributes for Solly Moholo keep pouring in.
