Former Kaizer Chiefs legend and former Mamelodi Sundowns captain, Brian Baloyi, has thrown his support behind Orlando Pirates to claim the Betway Premiership title this season. Speaking on the MacG podcast, Baloyi confidently predicted that the Buccaneers have what it takes to lift the trophy, while also suggesting that Mamelodi Sundowns might face difficulties maintaining their dominance.

“Pirates are my pick to win the league,” Baloyi stated during the podcast. “I believe Sundowns will have a tougher time this season and won’t be as dominant as they’ve been in the past few years.”

Baloyi also reflected on the current state of Kaizer Chiefs, admitting that while he expects improvement, they may still fall short of competing for the title this season. He optimistically suggested that his former club could secure a spot in the top four, but added a note of caution about their overall performance.

“As for Chiefs, I see us finishing somewhere in the top four, maybe third or fourth if we play consistently,” Baloyi continued. “We are improving, but there’s still work to be done before we can challenge for the top spot.”

His comments come at a time when fans and pundits alike are speculating on how the top teams will perform this season, particularly with Sundowns having set a high standard in recent years. Baloyi’s insights offer a unique perspective as someone who has represented both Chiefs and Sundowns in his career, and now sees Pirates emerging as a strong contender for the 2024/25 title.
