Former Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) leader Jabulani Khumalo has vehemently denied allegations that he has amassed significant wealth since launching the MK party.

In response to claims that he owns a fleet of cars and multiple homes in an affluent Durban suburb, Khumalo has provided a detailed account of how he acquired his possessions.

Addressing the allegations, Khumalo clarified that the expensive Land Cruiser he was driving was a gift from his family, who were concerned about his security.

He stated that his family organized a gala dinner and presented him with the car, which is still being paid off.

Regarding the other vehicles mentioned, Khumalo denied purchasing a Lexus or being gifted two X3s and an X5 by former Deputy President David Mabuza. He claimed that the use of these vehicles was only temporary.

Khumalo also denied allegations that he had acquired two homes in Ballito. He explained that he was residing in a house at Zimbali Estate belonging to a comrade.

The MK party had previously accused Khumalo of unexplained wealth and questionable foreign trips.

Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela expressed doubts about the source of Khumalo’s lavish lifestyle and demanded an explanation.

In a video circulating on social media, Khumalo vehemently defended his financial situation, explaining how he had received vehicles as gifts and support from family members and MK party members.

He attributed the increase in his security detail to threats against his life.

Despite Khumalo’s explanations, the MK party has maintained its stance that he is out of the party with no chance of reconciliation with former President Jacob Zuma. Khumalo, however, is still contesting his expulsion as leader of the MK party.

The ongoing controversy surrounding Khumalo’s wealth has cast a shadow over the MK party, which was founded by Zuma as a breakaway faction from the African National Congress (ANC).

The party has faced accusations of being a personality cult surrounding Zuma, who remains the party’s leader despite being sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court.

As the situation unfolds, Khumalo’s explanations may help quell some of the concerns raised by the MK party, but the controversy is likely to continue to dog the organization.

The party’s ability to maintain credibility and support among its members will depend on its handling of the allegations and the resolution of the leadership dispute.
